Liposuction is performed using basically two different techniques. At Artistic Liposculpting Center, Dr. Su performs Awake Local Anesthetic Liposuction which uses lidocaine to numb only the areas being treated. In this technique, instruments are much smaller and more gentle. Traditional Liposuction uses general anesthesia where patients are completely asleep. Physicians using this technique tend to use larger and more aggressive instruments in order to work faster.

You will be fully awake during the procedure and able to have normal relaxed conversation. This is the safest form of liposuction and the least traumatic. Yes there is some discomfort during the procedure, but much less discomfort during the recovery period than traditional liposuction.

You will be able to return to work within 1-2 days (average patient experience). Compare this to traditional liposuction which usually requires 1 week prior to returning to work.

You will see significant improvement immediately. However, all patients will have some delayed swelling which will take 3-5 months to gradually resolve before they look their best.

Accuracy of results is much better in general compared to traditional liposuction. This is possible since patients can stand up for evaluation during the procedure. Standing a patient upright allows Dr. Su to visualize problem areas such as unevenness and irregularities which can then be corrected. During traditional liposuction, a patient is under general anesthesia and cannot stand.

You will have only a few very small incisions about the size of a grain of rice through which the surgery will be performed. When healed these incisions are nearly invisible.
